Boooooooooorrriiiiiinnng. It's so bland and boring and dull to look at. Oh, look, here's another rocky plain. Joy. Another canyon. Yay. Despite how fun I found the show to be, the lack of variety just killed me. I mean, look, there are giant monsters fighting on mysterious planets in outer space - I don't want "logic" or "realism" to enter into these things at the expense of cool, visually interesting and creative environments.

And then to make it even worse, the way they filmed it was even more bland. I pray the Visual Translation System is dead because it really destroyed the creativity usually present in TPC's camerawork.

I would have liked to see a couple fights in a ruinous city, for instance. But hey, if they had to have such boring sets, at least they had a good reason for it. They couldn't very well have forests and such on these planets, at least not without some exposition explaining them.

Thanks to Aoi Kurenai for the rockin' awesome sig!

Like I said, the least they could have done was to use the cinematography spice things up a bit and make even the most boring of canyons visually interesting but they really seemed to stick to something like five or six key shots for the entire runs of both seasons.* :/

    * Though NEO was an improvement in many, many ways.

I really loved Mebius but I haven't got a chance of watching the series full. But the movies are definitely great.

That's my main gripe about the UMG series and its sequel. Half the time, we only see the upper body of the cast in those 'planet surface' scenes.

Is M78 the main location of all three series?

Apparently not. I don't think we even know what the Ultraman Zero series is gonna be about. Whether it's a conventional story, or an M78-based one.

Just guessing since they gave Zero a human persona, I think it would be a series set on earth.

And since I didn't see it translated...

Zero's writer is Kazuki Nakashima (yes! Finally he's doing a toku!) and War's writer is Ryouta Yamaguchi, head writer for the Medabots anime and the Ultra Galaxy movie, seems this would be his first tokusatsu TV series.
