Default Where to start with Ultra Series

Been watching alot of different toku lately, and want to add an Ultra to the list. What would be a good starting point for a relative noob like me?

I'd try starting with the "Big Three": Ultra Q, Ultraman, and Ultra Seven. Those are the classics. Then, work your way up.

i would say go with Ultraman, seeing the Ultra Q and UltraSeven are impossible to find unless you import. but if you want newer series go with Mebius or Max, if you don't mind dark a story try Nexus. Tiga Dyna and Gaia are good too.

Thanks to Ragna "D" BloodEdge for the sig.

I recommend Ultra Q, Ultraman, and Ultraman Max. The first and third of those are my personal favorites. Also, Ultraman the Next is a great way to go as far as movies are concerned - it's one of my favorite films ever.

I...honestly couldn't get into Ultraman. >_> Or Ultra Seven. Or any of the "big three". My favorite Shouwa era shows were Leo and 80, they were fantastic to watch, especially Leo, it's one of my all-time favorite tokusatsu. For something newer, Gaia and Max are about as good as you'll find in the heisei era, which is pretty awesome.

But yeah, if you wanna toss movies in, The Next is one of my favorites as well and served as a great lead in to Ultraman Nexus.

Seven is my all-time favorite, but it is fairly atypical of what Ultraman usually is like. So I don't think I'd recommend that one first. Some episodes are so entrenched in their story and deeper message, you almost forget there's supposed to be a fight scene! It's an awesome show though and well worth checking out though, there's a good reason why it's so popular in Japan.

To start, I'd say Tiga or Max. The first one kicked off a new era and is pretty much essential viewing for Dyna, plus it's just so damn good! Max is fine if you start, but even cooler if you know who the old monsters are (they're from the original series and Seven, but you could watch those after to see where they come from. The Max updates are great.)

In a way, Ultra Seven is "Superman meets Star Trek." It's like the Japanese answer to Superman (only "Clark Kent" puts on his glasses to become "Superman"), but with the same kind of dramatic sci-fi themes that made Star Trek so great, and plenty of character development. To this day, Seven always had a very Trek-like following in Japan. Consequently, Seven (and Dan Moroboshi) has appeared in more series and spinoffs than any other character in the entire Ultra Series!

I'd recommend Ultraman Tiga. It was my second Ultra show that I ever watched. If you can find it with subs or even raw, watch it.

Then go back and watch some of the older shows.

The Funimation dvd's of Tiga are going out of Print. Funimation has no plans of re-releasing them.

So it's so good that I'll like it even if I have no bleeping idea what they're saying?
