That's fair. Goseiger's action sequences are still great, anyway. If Nagaishi's phoning it in there's at least someone on staff who's trying to turn robot angel lemons into lemonade.

Any idea why Yokote herself hasn't written much? I know she didn't do every single episode on Gekiranger, but her presence seemed stronger. (she didn't even do the powerup episode for Goseiger)

I am still puzzled at how that Saburo pen name writer ended up writing an episode. (and a good one at that!)

I'm actually thinking a pirate Sentai might be a bad idea. People already don't seem to take real-life pirates seriously because of the POTC movies. You hear "pirate", and you think Johnny Depp, not a Somali hijacker who keeps raiding merchant vessels >>

Anytime you see a show or movie based on pirates, it's always the ones from the 15th or 16th century. Mostly because they're very exciting.

The pirates of today are nothing but thugs & murderers. The's no way Hollywood or anyone would ever do a show based on those guys. Besides people want to watch shows to be entertained not traumatized.

I get the feeling that Goseiger's suffered from some sort of backstage shenanigans. (Mainly due to Episode 19 getting Alan Smithee'd.)

I don't know the real answer. With respected directors half-assing it and leaving, and with how incredibly lackluster and lazy the show's turned out, Goseiger seems to me almost like a troubled production.

Goseiger is the first Sentai in a while that's had joint main producers -- regular franchise producer Jun Hikasa is partnered with relatively new-to-Sentai Gou Wakamatsu, who seems to be very hands-on, so maybe he's the one holding things back, and wants to keep the show safe (which just makes it really boring and awful.) Maybe his job is to look over everyone's shoulder and it's making the people who have worked in this genre longer than he has unhappy. :shrug: This is all just totally guesswork, because I don't think they're going to make behind-the-scenes drama known.

EDIT: And with Lynxara having a similar feeling, maybe it's close to what really is happening with the show.

It was "written" by Saburo Yatsude. That's basically a collective pen name for various Toei writers. I think that basically helped along the rumors that there has been trouble behind the scenes. As much as I like Goseiger, even I can tell that it's so un...anything.

Not really, but I think Somali hijackers isn't really what I'd think when applied to Sentai either.

Maybe not, but it is what pirates are nowadays. Not the romanticized (and albeit cool at times) portrayal in the media. Even if Sentai shied away from a brutal portrayal of pirates, I have my doubts that what we might get is going to be even close to the usual image of piracy.

Sentai will always go with the romanticized version of something when the real version is less than tasteful. If Sentai went for the more realistic versions, Tayu would have been a hooker and Takeru and Chiaki or Ryunousuke would have been lovers in Shinkenger.

It's that "Saburo Yatsude" is credited as "creator" of shows -- Sentais since Battle Fever, the metal heroes and so on. Yatsude is the pseudonym for a group of Toei staff members -- higher-ups, producers and the series writers who come together to hammer out the show's premise. As opposed to one real dude being a show's creator, like Shoutarou Ishinomori -- it's a team effort, and a way for Toei's guys to have more say. It's not uncommon for the Yatsude collective to write something unimportant like lyrics for some of the insert songs, but they were never given credit for an actual episode until that one Goseiger.

But I think you're referring to the time where it was revealed that former producer Takeyuki Suzuki had some sort of vague "creative supervisor" credit on shows like Dekaranger and Magiranger that made me think it was a trick to get old-school fans' attention. It tricked me! I thought those shows were going to be cool throwbacks.

Not really different from the previous anniversary shows for Sentai.

What episodes did she do for Goseiger so far?. I was so pumped to hear she was the head writer for Goseiger.

Another thing, are we seriously worried about the company that took an arcade and electronics themed series and made it a space opera? (I'd also say RPM but that was Disney)

Megaranger still had a space theme aswell. The arcade bit was only in episode 1.
