What, music geek? Dude, I'm in a Ren Faire band.
I drew the line at actually being a music major. Though oddly enough, most of the music profs thought I was. :P
Why didn't you just become a music major in the first place?
One of what?
I took liberal arts because my interests are always changing and I didn't want to dedicate myself to something then decide I didn't like it.
One of those who do not declare their majors.
It's best to take classes within the area one would like that could count for multiple majors, but most people don't do that for some reason.

I didn't want to be a music major. I enjoy playing music, but only when I'm not being forced to do it. And being a performance major is even worse. Fully half of the people who declared Music as their major ended up changing their mind before graduating, at the university that I went to.
As for why I didn't declare, I wanted to try out some different areas to see what gelled with me. It was a Liberal Arts University. Everyone had to take the classes in order to graduate, I just ended up taking them all at the beginning while "finding myself."

The finding yourselves thing...
:nono:
That's not the way to do it.

My friend started out as a music major, but hated the formalness of the class. He's great at music, but as far as getting a degree he said to hell with it because he couldn't enjoy himself. He's got a degree in business now.

Sure it is. Get the college experience and get ideas. I hated college though.

All right, tell me the way to do it. For everyone.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

Sure you get experience and you get ideas, but you need some idea of where you're going with it. If you don't know and you're just there to be there, there's not much of a point.
All right, tell me the way to do it. For everyone.
Why go somewhere and have no idea what you're doing? You need to plan before going if you want to do anything good. If you just go to college to be there, you'll waste your time. You can make yourself a more defined path while you're there, but if you have no path, you will go nowhere. It's best at the very least to do something than to hope everything falls into its place.

What if you're done with high school, but still don't know what you want to do? Some colleges, like community colleges, show you different things and you can decide from there...even decide you might not like college at all and just want to go to a trade school or something.

Well, sure. If I'd had no idea whatsoever I would have gone to jr college instead. Some people pick a major and then waste lots of time on classes they end up not needing when they change it 5 times before graduating. Other people have known what they wanted to be since they were 5, and that works great as well. But not everyone learns the same way, Darkster. For me, the experience I gained in various fields in college have been invaluable to me in my years since I graduated. I'm by nature a bit of a dabbler. I know a bit about a whole bunch of subjects. So my Liberal Arts university was perfect for that.

Yeah, people go to Community College just for that. There of course are also those who already know what they want to do and they follow a plan through CC to a Four Year.
Edit: It's fine to want to learn more about different subjects, Blade Dancer, but majors are more serious. You can learn almost anything at any time. That's what I've been doing. I can't do much outside what I have now.

No Sleep + Blood fasting + Classes from 1-9:20pm + inbetween the classes I spent the 3 hours just doing work + Random guy on the sidewalk at 10pm scaring the shit outta me while driving = Not so good day I would say.

Ditto. Though I've pretty much signed up for a degree that specializes in journalism since I've been interested in writing since I was young. This upcoming semester is going to rock, hopefully! I've got about 60ish credits so far and that means I was actually allowed to pick classes early for once and not have to fight the crowds for the. @_@ ...and I envy anyone with Japanese at their school!

Also! Dumpster diving with the teacher, best way to spend the last day of class.

The school wanted to see the receipts for chemicals my photography teacher had ordered throughout the year. Turns out he threw them away a few days ago, so a few students (myself included) decided to help him out.
So we dug through the building's dumpster for about twenty minutes.

Haha, probably does but we don't expect anything. He's a pretty cool teacher, not too well known, so a lot of his classes are rather small, really personal, though.
